SAVORY ONION PIE
Serves 6
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 70 minutes (includes onion cook time)
Ingredients
3 tbsp butter
½ tsp salt
2 medium sweet onions, sliced thin
6 oz Swiss Cheese, grated
1 tbsp Flour
1 tsp Salt
2 Eggs, beaten
1 cup Whole Milk
1 Regular store bought frozen pie crust
Instructions
For Onions:
Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Thinly slice onion and add to the large pot. Season with salt and sugar.
Reduce heat to medium low and cook until onions begin to caramelize. Stir frequently to prevent burning. This will take about 20 minutes
For Pie:
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
Place pie crust on a baking sheet to help with transferring and potential clean-up of any spills.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, cheese, and salt. Add eggs and milk and stir until combined.
Next, place onions evenly in the pie shell. Pour the egg mixture over the onions. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 45 minutes. The top should be golden and middle set.
Remove from the oven and allow the pie to rest for at least 15 minutes before serving.
