FRENCH ONION LASAGNA
Ingredients:
– 4 TX1015 Sweet Onions
– 4 tbsp butter, divided
– 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tsp of beef bouillon paste
– 1 egg
– 1 cup ricotta
– 1/3 cup Parmigiano reggiano cheese
– 1 clove minced garlic
– 2 tbsp flour
– 2 cups of milk
– Fresh thyme
– Pinch of nutmeg
– 9 lasagna noodles
– 8 oz. of gruyere cheese
Directions:
French Onions:
Cook 4 sliced onions in 2 tbsp of butter. Add in 1 tsp of Worcestershire sauce and 1 tsp of beef bouillon paste. Cook on low heat, stirring frequently until the onions caramelize (about 40 minutes).
Ricotta Filling:
Mix together one egg, 1 cup ricotta, 1/3 cup of Parmigiano reggiano, salt and pepper.
Garlic Béchamel Sauce:
Melt 2 tbsp of butter with a clove of minced garlic, then add in 2 tbsp of flour to make a roux. Whisk in 2 cups of milk and one thyme sprig and simmer until it starts to thicken. Remove the thyme, season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
1. Add half of the béchamel to the bottom of a pan.
2. On an al dente lasagna noodle, spread the ricotta filling, top with French onions, and a sprinkle of Gruyère cheese.
3. Place the roll ups in the pan, then top with the rest of the béchamel sauce, onions, and more cheese.
4. Bake in a 350° oven for 30 minutes until golden brown.
