Texas 1015 Pickled Sweet Onions

Ingredients

  • 1 large Texas 1015 Sweet Onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 garlic clove, smashed (optional)
  • 1 tsp black peppercorns (optional)

Directions

  1. Add sliced onions to a clean jar or container.
  2. In a small saucepan, combine vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Bring to a light simmer and stir until dissolved.
  3. Add garlic and peppercorns if using.
  4. Pour the warm liquid over the onions until fully covered.
  5. Let cool slightly, then refrigerate.

The onions are ready in about 1 hour, but flavor improves after a few hours. Keeps refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
