This exciting event invites residents and visitors to savor the flavors of Texas’ state vegetable, the TX1015 Sweet Onion, through specially crafted recipes at participating restaurants and food trucks throughout the Valley.

During the 10-day celebration, food enthusiasts will have the chance to indulge in a variety of innovative and delicious creations that showcase the sweet, mild flavor of the TX1015 Sweet Onion. The event will culminate with a finale event hosted by the McAllen Food Park the evening of Friday, May 31st from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Attendees can enjoy live music by Mark Show, participate in karaoke, and experience a lively evening complete with opportunities to win prizes and load up on event swag.
“We’re excited to be participating in this year’s event and supporting awareness of local foods. Our purpose is to bring our community together to share what makes us uniquely us- what better way to do that than enjoying great food, music, and art?” stated Ezequiel Lara, McAllen Food Park Manager.
Why Celebrate the TX1015 Sweet Onion?
The TX1015 Sweet Onion, known for its unique sweetness and mildness, is a significant local crop that can only be grown in 35 designated counties in South Texas. The region’s warm, mild winters allow for harvesting as early as March every year. The TX1015 Sweet Onion has been farmed by Texans for generations and is available from March through June in the Deep South of Texas (Rio Grande Valley) and from May through July in South Central Texas (Uvalde/Winter Garden).
