AIR FRYER BLOOMING ONION

Servings: 4-6

Prep Time: 10 Minutes

Cook Time: 20 Minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp Old Bay
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 large sweet onion, about 16 oz
  • Cooking spray

For Dipping Sauce:

  • ⅓ cup mayo
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp dijon mustard
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1.  Preheat the air fryer to 375°F.
  2.  Whisk together milk and egg in a bowl and set aside. In a medium bowl, mix flour, salt, Old Bay, oregano, and garlic powder.
  3.  Slice off a small part of the top of the onion and remove skin.  Using a small knife, carefully remove the core of the onion. Make sure that you leave the root intact to hold it together. Using a longer knife, slice the onion close to the root. Rotate and continue to create wedges which are held together by the root. You should have 12-14 sections. Spread the sections apart.
  4.  Dip onion into egg mixture and then into flour mixture. Use your hands to gently separate the petals and get the seasoning mixture between the sections and petals. Repeat by dipping into the egg mixture and seasoning mixture a second time.
  5. Gently place the onion in the air fryer basket. Spray with cooking spray. Cook until crispy for 20 minutes.
  6.  While the onion cooks, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside.
  7.  Serve blooming onion right away with dipping sauce.
