French Onion Butter Board

Serves 6-8

Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • ⅛  tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 medium sweet onions, sliced thin
  • ½ cup cup salted butter, softened 
  • 1 ½ tbsp microgreens
  • 2 tsp shelled sunflower seeds
  • ¼ cup grated gruyere cheese
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • Sliced french bread, toasted or grilled

Instructions

For Onions: 

Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Thinly slice onion and add to the large pot. Season with salt and sugar.

Reduce heat to medium low and cook until onions begin to caramelize. Stir frequently to prevent burning. This will take 15-20 minutes

To Assemble: 

Once onions have cooled slightly, chop them and place in a small mixing bowl. 

In the same small mixing bowl, combine the butter and stir to combine. 

Spread butter on a serving dish. The butter should be about ¼ inch in thickness. 

Top with cheese, microgreens, sunflower seeds, and black pepper. 

Serve at room temperature with bread.
