WATERMELON & SWEET ONION SALAD
July is National Watermelon Month! To celebrate, we’ve collaborated with Erin at State of Dinner to create a Watermelon & Sweet Onion Salad. This recipe combines the sweetness of watermelon and TX1015 Sweet Onion to create a savory dish perfect for any outdoor outing.
DID YOU KNOW? The Rio Grande Valley is famous for TX1015 Sweet Onions and WATERMELON! That’s right, Texas is one of the top four watermelon producers in the country, growing 15% of the total domestic crop. Last year, they produced over 600 MILLION pounds of watermelon.

Ingredients
- 4 cups cubed watermelon
- ½ medium onion, thinly sliced (about ½ cup)
- 1 cup diced cucumber
- 1/3 cup cubed feta cheese
- 1/3 cup chiffonade (thinly sliced) basil
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tablespoon honey
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Place the cubed watermelon in a shallow serving bowl.
- Top with the onion, cucumber, feta cheese, and basil.
- In a small bowl, whisk the lime juice, olive oil, honey, and salt.
- Slowly drizzle over the salad and toss to coat.
- Serve immediately.
